PULSE DC is the young professionals committee of the American Heart Association’s Greater Washington Region. Committee members serve as ambassadors of the AHA, engaging others to live healthier lives. The group promotes heart health through various activities focused on fitness and nutrition.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death worldwide. Stroke is the fifth leading killer of all Americans. With these facts, it is nearly impossible to encounter an individual who has not been affected by these diseases. As a result, PULSE DC committee members are dedicated to spreading awareness about heart disease, stroke and the associated community impact.

Through their social and fundraising events, PULSE DC supports the research, education and advocacy efforts of the American Heart Association.

Heart After Dark party

February 25 | Mandarin Oriental Hotel

Heart After Dark is the annual after party following the DC Heart Ball. This black-tie event featured a cocktail reception followed by a live band, dancing, dessert, and drinks with attendees of the Heart Ball. The evening also included an interactive GIF booth celebrating DC and “the Heart of the Community.”

January 14 | Zengo Logan Circle

PULSE Co-President Channing Muller hosted a Zengo ride to celebrate 5 healthy years since her second heart attack in 2012. The cycling event raised over $700 for the AHA!.

August 10 | YMCA Anthony Bowen

Making small changes in your diet is important to your heart health. PULSE members attended a “Simple Cooking with Heart” class at the YMCA to help start cooking at home. Cooking at home can be a daunting task, but a rewarding one for your diet and lifestyle!

July 20 | Next Phase Fitness

Next Phase hosted PULSE for a heart-healthy, blood-pumping tabata class. Tabata is an exercise format that incorporates high intensity intervals with periods of rest, which has been proven to boost your metabolism and burn calories and fat more efficiently. The class raised almost $100 for the AHA!

July 12 | Irish Whiskey Public House

For the July committee meeting, PULSE hosted a “speed networking” happy hour for members both new and old to get to know each other better, share why the AHA is meaningful to them, and strengthen PULSE as a group. Each member spent 3 minute speed rounds chatting, until the whole committee had a chance to connect.

June 11 | Georgetown Harbour

Lawyers Have Heart is Washington’s largest 10K race. Founded in 1991 as a way for the Washington legal community to unite annually in support of the American Heart Association, our PULSE team raised over $350 for the cause, and celebrated with brunch and a fun post-race party at the Harbour.

April 23 | RFK Stadium

PULSE cheered on the home team in a 3-0 shut-out vs. the New England Revolution.
Kicking off with a “heart healthy” potluck tailgate outside the stadium, $9 of each ticket sold to the group was donated back to the American Heart Association.

March 21 | Provision

PULSE members and friends unwound with a feel-good vinyasa yoga session that then flowed into a wine tasting of Provision No. 14 wines. This total body “wine-down” experience was co-taught by our friends at Grip The Mat, with the wine tasting provided by our favorite Provision 14 bartender, Pablo.

Boxing Class

January 30 | Urban Boxing

Urban Boxing’s experienced trainers guided PULSE members through a 60-minute workout focusing on conditioning, strength training, and basic boxing techniques, including high-intensity cardiovascular exercises. Thanks for the fun, high-energy, calorie-shredding workout!
